Finally, the Party Down Movie

Happy new year, everyone! And happy, happy news for all of us Party Down fans: Megan Mullally confirmed that there would indeed be a Party Down movie … but we’re all still waiting to see if our Jane Lynch is in. We vaguely recall from her conversation with Adam Scott in oh-so-long-ago 2011 that she did seem pretty damn eager to get to it already, so we’re hopeful that she’ll at least make a cameo.

And for you Gleeks, there are spoilers everywhere for this upcoming season, including Jane hinting that “something big” is coming for Sue: “Let’s just say for a peri-menopausal woman, it’s pretty exciting.” If Sue is with child … well, we’ll cross that bridge if we get to it.

End of the Year Woots + Helen Mirren! Woot!!

It’s the end of the year, which of course means everyone reflects and judges and decides what was the best things in some category, and then we get all excited remembering said things. Fun times, in other words. NPR has reflected and judged and decided that Happy Accidents was one of the year’s best “Celebrity Tell-Alls.” Which means you ought to go get this book in case you already haven’t. If you don’t believe us, take it from Mindy Kaling:

BOOKS: What do you want to read next?

KALING: Jane Lynch’s autobiography, “Happy Accidents.’’ I want to read something funny, too, maybe “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk’’ by David Sedaris. I should read “The Marriage Plot’’ by Jeffrey Eugenides, but right now I just want to read about Jane Lynch realizing she was gay when she was 13.

And in totally different woot! news, Helen Mirren is going to be a “guest voice” on Glee, which is sort of like being a guest voice on The Simpsons in that the person who supplies the voice looks totally different than the person who embodies the voice. In this case, Mirren will be the inner voice of one of the characters; we don’t know which one, but we do know that she’ll probably be hotter than whomever it is. Not to take anything away from Santana, et al, but c’mon. This is the Queen.

We like this one, especially that photo: the LA Times Magazine has an interview with Jane about Sue Sylvester (of course), hosting the Emmys, and being on the set of 40 Year Old Virgin. Excerpt:

That movie introduced you to a whole new audience.
Absolutely. Ensemble comedies were all fresh and new. We shot in that store over several weeks, and we all came in every day, even if we weren’t in any of the scenes that were designated to shoot that day, ’cause Judd [Apatow] might say, “Jane, get in there,” or, “Paul [Rudd], get in there.” It was like sitting on the bench in the basketball game, and you’d get called in.

So, a lot was improvised?
All of it. That’s why I say in the book that my agent didn’t want me to take it. It was a horrible script. It was really just kind of stupid and sophomoric. [Laughs.] The film wasn’t stupid and sophomoric—it was done in an artful way. But yeah, it’s all improvised.

BIG FAT UPDATE

Whoaz, where does time go? First it was February, then we were really busy for the last few weeks, and now it’s March and our rent is due and we need to remember to pay that soon. Updates:

After Ellen has a poll of Your Favorite Out Female Celebrities. There’s a debate in the comment thread about whether Jodie Foster counts as “out”, but no matter, since you’re nominating Jane Lynch anyway.
Jane Lynch does a voiceover on Phineas and Ferb that will air this Friday, March 4. For those without kids or time to channel surf, the show is an awesome cartoon that’s for kids as much as it is for adults. EW has a short clip here.
Ugh, we were hoping to go one day without mentioning the colossal mess that is Charlie Sheen, but this is pretty funny and/or sad. Slate took a few choice quotes (there were so many) from his recent meltdown and inartfully inserted them into a scene where his character seeks counsel from his therapist, played by Jane.

Speaking of Charlie Sheen, Jane was interviewed by Access Hollywood and very graciously declined to proffer advice to the guy other than to say “You gotta find your own way.” Or, as our friend from the South would say, “You have to have the ears to listen.” She does offer up some bits about her memoir and Kathy Griffin playing a Tea Party crazy on Glee.
And finally, Glee merch. Teen.com is giving away a copy of Glee: The Music, Volume 5; we think these are rapidly replacing the whole Now That’s What I Call Music! hit series of the ’90s. And on April 19, Glee Encore will be released, which is like a supersized DVD set of Glee‘s greatest hits.
