In case you can’t read it from there, the stopwatch says, “Sylvester.” Please add that to our Amazon wish list, thanks. You can buy the photo from No on H8’s website here – all proceeds from sales of these pretty pretty shots go towards materials for these photo shoots and the anti-hate campaign itself. Other Glee cast members also posed for the campaign – check out Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale’s shared photo here.

For those not familiar with the campaign, it’s pretty great, like a extremely better version of those silent protests during college to register dissatisfaction with the war or tuition hikes or not having enough vegan options on campus. Photographer Adam Bouska was so riled up by our state’s passage of Proposition 8 (we continue to be embarrassed that California persists in participating in things like blatant discrimination) that he started assembling a “photographic silent protest” against people who hate people who love. Each participant is duct taped to illustrate how their/our voices are “being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with ‘NOH8′ painted on one cheek in protest.”

We couldn’t have not said it better ourselves. Now, let’s re-shift the big fight to something more general, like, say, fighting against homophobia, shall we?

This one is just – just – a touch old, but Access Hollywood has a raw interview with Jane Lynch as she’s arriving for the Producer’s Guild Awards last week. She opines on a number of things, including her recent spate of nominations and Glee’s successes (“People really get off on it”); being on Team Conan (“He’s a class act”); and on those mildly hot rumors that Julia Roberts will guest star on the show soon. Jane explains that Julia approached the Glee table during the Golden Globes (oh, those Tinseltowners) and suggested that she have a walk-on role as a Sue’s friend or a fellow cheerleading coach. Problem is, Jane’s not sure whether, and the extent to which, free-flowing alcohol played a role in Julia’s decision to make that suggestion. Heh.

Meh, we’re not in love with Erin Brockovich; really, having Tina Fey reprising her Mean Girls role on Glee would be infinitely more awesome. Oh well, can’t win them all.

Access Hollywood is not embed-friendly, so we’ll have to direct you to their site here for the interview.

As you can see from the cones, Jane Lynch will be singing “Vogue” in the all-Madge episode. We cannot be more excited for this. There also will be a Beatles episode that, though it looks good, probably cannot beat the Powerpuff Girls’s “Meet the Beat-Alls” episode. While the Powerpuff Girls have absolutely nothing to do with Jane Lynch (or do they??), we miss Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup so much that we’ve linked to the episode below. The going gets great at 1:30.

Jane Lynch donates her pocket-friendly Golden Globe gown to a charity auction to benefit the Red Cross's efforts in Haiti. In other news, the English love them some Jane Lynch.

Two Jane Lynch news items that have been unduly delayed, but still are very timely. Most important, because there really is a deadline to this, is an auction. We all remember Jane’s Golden Globe dress, don’t we? Yes, of course we do. It was a Mon Atelier. More importantly, it had pockets. Pockets!!! Well, Jane has generously donated that same gown to a non-profit group, Clothes Off Our Backs, in an auction to benefit the Red Cross’s relief efforts in Haiti. The auction ends today at 5PM PST, so you’ve only got a few precious working hours to do what you do and raise your placards, itch your elbow, tap your forehead, scream, whatever it is that one does to indicate interest in an object of one’s affection.

In other news, Jane appears on the cover of the March “Love” issue of the UK’s DIVA Magazine (below), which is like a lezzie-oriented magazine with English sensibilities. The article appears to be a nice summation of many of the recent interviews Jane has done lately. Sample quote: “In Sue, Lynch has created a character that will rank alongside the likes of Patsy Stone, Alexis Colby and Heather Mills in the pantheon of delicious, preposterous, shameless villainesses.” Now, it may be because we’re capitalist Yanks and/or don’t remember Dynasty and/or barely remember Heather Mills, but when we think villainesses, we think Ursula, Maleficient, or even the Borg Queen way before those named three. But as they say, it’s not just an ocean that separates our two countries. Check out the rest of the fat excerpt here.

We’ve had the pleasure of witnessing one of Cornerstone Theater Company’s productions here in Los Angeles. Aimed at drawing a line between art and local politics, each of their plays touch upon some pressing issue, whether it be illegal immigration or the Los Angeles river (for you non-LA folk, didn’t you know we had a river that runs through us? The big big rig vs. Arnold chase scene in Terminator 2? That was co-starring the cement banks of our local river. See, it’s not all a desert.) Every year, Cornerstone presents a Bridge Award to an artist who makes a positive mark on the local community. This year’s Bridge Award goes to Paris Barclay, executive producer of such things as In Treatment and director of a certain television show. Yeah, Glee – he directed “Wheels” in which Sue Sylvester showed us she really does have a softer side (it was like walking into a Sears all over again), and “Home,” which will air on April 27th. Naturally, then, our Jane will present Mr. Barclay with his award. So awesome. The Bridge Awards are on Tuesday, March 16th in LA. Tickets are mostly tax deductible, and more than that, it’s a good cause. A great one. ’Cause we all love Jane.

And, while we’re talking about things that involve spending, money, thanks everyone for buying your Amazon products through our site! Clicking an Amazon ad anywhere on Her Name is Jane Lynch helps pay off our totally not tax deductible hosting fees. What Amazon links you say? Why, this one, say:

Best line (to a colleague who happens to be Alex Mapa from Entourage):
"If you were doused with kerosene and lit on fire you couldn't be any more flaming than you already are every single day."

I watched Mr. Troop Mom after one of our readers mentioned it. Normally I don’t watch Nickelodeon – I’m more of a “Disney’s One Saturday Morning” (sing it) kind of girl. However, tuning in to a lineup comprised of repeat episodes of “That’s So Raven,” “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” and “The Emperor’s New School” really started to grate on me. I mean, how many times can I watch “The Replacements” and see the episode featuring a song from a concert attended by fans of Riley’s imaginary unicorn friend “Rainbow Jumper?”:

“I’m gonna keep on jumpin‘ rainbows until the sun don’t shine

I’ll keep on jumpin‘ rainbows all the time”

I was thus pleased that I could watch Jane in the kind of feel-good, wholesome entertainment that continues to sustain me. Throw in some George Lopez and call it a day. Orale!

Character type: Authority figure

Best line: “How much do you weigh?”

Jane is great as a Ms. Hulka, of Camp Hulka’s Rock. She lifts George physically and psychologically out of his half-assed parenting rut. (In typical family movie fashion, the movie features a typical cinematic conceit: “Mommy dead, Daddy struggles valiantly to be the sole emotional caregiver.”)

In the same vein as the aforementioned family entertainment, the next item in my Netflix queue was the family drama/comedy “Tru Loved.” Apparently “Tru” is a nickname for “Gertrude.” So much better than “Gertie,” really.

The movie centers around a teenage girl whose lesbian parents uproot her from San Francisco to live in Agoura Hills, home to Linkin Park, Incubus, and an overwhelmingly homogeneous caucasian population. Someone finally befriends her, but he’s a closeted African-American who plays quarterback of the high school football team. Oh, and he wants her to be his “beard.” He puts on daily shows of making out with her in front of his group of friends, who we are led to believe are the popular group on campus. This I didn’t buy, because truly popular crowds “roll deep.” That means that there are, like, 20 BFF friends on the roster. Along the other items in my not-buying-it cart was the awful quarterbacking footage to which we are subjected. Really? They couldn’t get ONE good shot of him NOT throwing the ball like a 2 year old? Audiences aren’t expecting a Peyton Manning reel, but it’s not easy to suspend disbelief when you’re laughing at the guy’s ridiculous follow-through! Orale!

While Jane doesn’t get a lot of screen time, she is hilarious as a dancing beret-wearing artsy teacher for a scene in which Tru imagines all the mayhem and foolishness happening in the teacher’s lounge. Those of us who have been in a teacher’s lounge know that it’s just a breakroom for the working grunts so that they don’t have to face the horrors of using student restrooms – but when I was a kid, I imagined otherwise. The movie offers a refreshing, honest commentary on high school rivalries, and gets all huggy at the end with gay-straight alliances and some solid teen acting on par with DeGrassi.

Character type: Whimsical authority figure

Best line (to a colleague who happens to be Alex Mapa from Entourage):

“If you were doused with kerosene and lit on fire you couldn’t be any more flaming than you already are every single day.”

We’re on the Jane-dar now. Time to step it up!

Big news all around today as we learned that Miss Mary Katherine Gallagher herself – i.e., Molly Shannon – will be squaring off against Sue Sylvester in the spring season of Glee. But, overshadowed by this news was DVR Playground’s interview with Jane Lynch, in which they asked, and she answered, and I quote:

Since we don’t want to get you in trouble with Ryan Murphy for sharing too many upcoming GLEE secrets, perhaps we can get you in trouble for an entirely different reason. With Sue having her own segment on the local news, what are your thoughts on the newest FOX News correspondent Sarah Palin??

I almost don’t want to opinionated but I think she’s as stupid as Sue and as over-the-top. You know what, I bet Sarah Palin will end up looking like Sue Sylvester. She’s going to have these ridiculous views with very little knowledge underneath them. You know I have a joke in the first episode back where I call some of my cheerleaders stupid, saying, “You may be some of the stupidest teens I’ve ever encountered and that’s saying something. I coached a young Sarah Palin.”

Yeah. YEAH!!!!

Jane also semi-explains how Sue Sylvester makes her comeback (“a little sexual blackmail”) and what she knows – or, more accurately – doesn’t know about the writers’ plans for her character. Go on, read the short Q & A over here. Us, well, we’re just going to savor that Sarah Palin quote a little bit longer.

We know, Jane has been all over the news lately, interviews here and there. We’re still trying to catch them all, but within that net, we try to filter out the good stuff from the bad. Here’s one that is pretty good: a quick and easy Q & A in the UK’s Mirror. Here, she talks about the ogre she will play in the new Shrek movie (Shrek Forever After, also starring – wait for it – Megan Fox. Woo. …). Our favorite answer is the one she has in response to the question about what makes her laugh:

I laugh almost every day at the word fupa – I don’t know if you know what it means. It’s a reference to the fat right about the groin area. I laugh at myself a lot. I find myself endlessly entertaining. I’m clumsy and I trip, and I move too fast, and I run into walls. That makes me chortle. I love fart jokes too.

Who doesn’t love a good fart joke!

The oddest question, we thought, was when they asked Jane about playing a “cougar” in The 40 Year Old Virgin. Um, really? If the prey is 40 years old, how old must the woman be? Whatever it is, that’s not Jane.

In totally unrelated news, while we were half-watching The Matrix: Revolutions (man, was that a bad, bad movie), we saw Jane Lynch with Julia Louis-Dreyfus in a second Healthy Choice commercial. We’ll try to get our hands on it, but, for now, enjoy the first one below.

Jane Lynch bags a doctor!

Okay, okay, “Psychologist.”

The last we heard in 2009, Jane hinted that she was in a new relationship that she was very committed to. Before that, she said of relationships, “I’m just kind of retarded in that area.”

The more romantic of the two of us here at Her Name Is Jane Lynch (me!) lamented that such a delightful lady as Jane wasn’t finding love. This fervid romantic comedy watcher briefly considered the difficulties of celebrity dating and noted the busy working life of the ubiquitous character actor.

Jane spilled the beans at the Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 17, telling the New York Times Carpetbagger blog that she plans to marry her girlfriend Dr. Lara Embry in May 2010. No telling if this wedding will be as “Hollywood” as the DeGeneres-de Rossi affair, but I’m guessing the cake will be superb. And hopefully, will not be vegan.

We haven’t heard much about Dr. Embry, but I reacted excitedly upon seeing a woman’s lovely hand on Jane’s shoulder while credits rolled at the end of the SAG Awards the other night. The text hid this woman’s face, and the camera scrolled over to Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren hugging someone else famous. Twice.

Word on the street is that Jane and Lara met at an event for the National Center for Lesbian Rights in May of 2009. Dr. Embry was receiving the organization’s Justice Award for winning a custody-rights battle with her ex-partner over their two children. Jane was there to introduce “The L Word” creator Ilene Chaiken, who received the NCLR’s Voice and Visibility Award. This story could very easily be turned into a romantic comedy that I would watch, right after an accidental third viewing of “Little Black Book.”

According to shewired.com:

“Embry and her former domestic partner lived in Washington State and had two children together. Each gave birth to one child, and each adopted her non-biological child through a second-parent adoption. The couple later moved to Florida, and their relationship ended several years after that. They agreed to share custody of both children and did so successfully until Embry’s former partner unilaterally decided to separate the children and cut off all contact between Embry and one of her children. NCLR represented Embry in her initial suit for shared custody.”

Whoa, whoa. This would make Jane somewhat of a step-parent to two children, albeit not a legal custodian to them. That reminds me of the big talk we had here before “adopting” (not “rescuing”) a purebred Shiba Inu from a breeder in Lancaster, CA for $1200 USD. Parenting is a big deal. This would also make Dr. Embry the possible step-parent to Jane’s pet menagerie: 10-year-old Lhasa Apso Olivia, 7-year-old Wheaten terrier Georgie, 16-year-old gray tabby Greta, and 15-year-old red tabby Riley.

A huzzah to the happy couple! Let’s all cross our fingers for a non-vegan cake.
