Will All Designers Sew Pockets into Their Dresses Already

…because they’re pretty great. Jane was at last night’s SAG Awards, wearing this pretty blue number here. The ever discerning eyes over at The Sun loved it, but according to this Examiner article, some peanuts in the gallery complained that her David Meister gown hewed too closed to her previous awards show garb. Which is sort of like complaining about how your co-worker wears the same thing to work every day. Oh well. We can do nothing but point you to this gallery of Liz Lemon-ware. And offer you the video below, which, in addition to proper fawning over said dress, Jane is challenged to, and accepts, a juggle-off.

Jane Lynch Will Receive the NCLR Vanguard Award

The National Center for Lesbian Rights celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, and along with commemorating 35 years of damn fine work, the organization will award a few choice individuals with a few choice awards. Jane Lynch will receive the Vanguard Award, which “honors an individual whose life and spirit exemplifies NCLR’s vision and values of equality and justice for all.” Per the NCLR:

This year’s award goes to famed actress Jane Lynch, of “Glee” and “Julie & Julia,” who has lived an authentic life as an out lesbian while simultaneously achieving great success and visibility in television and film. Her authenticity and integrity are blazing a path not just for the artists who follow in her footsteps, but for young people everywhere who look up to her. She lives her life with openness to the unexpected, and by doing so met her soul-mate and became a parent long past the time she thought she ever would.

The awards will be presented on May 5 in San Francisco; tickets are available here. If you can’t be there in person, consider being there in spirit by participating in the NCLR campaign.

Jane Lynch + George Clooney in “8″

As if Tina Fey and Amy Poehler weren’t enough this week, we also have word that Jane will be in a play about the Proposition 8 trials with ~~Dr. Ross~~ George Clooney. In the aptly titled 8, she’ll play Maggie Gallagher, the co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage (boo! hiss!!). Clooney and the ~~President of the United States~~ Martin Sheen will play the plaintiffs’ lead counsels. The play is scheduled for March 3 at the Wilshire Ebell Theater here in LA, with proceeds going to the American Foundation for Equal Rights. And there will be a lot of proceeds – tickets start at $500 each and go all the way up to $250,000 for “Presenting Sponsors.”

In other news: Criminal Minds really, really, really wants to have Jane back to reprise her role as Reid’s mom, but as you undoubtedly know from your real life experience, scheduling is hard. Cross your fingers, people, and let’s hope they make it happen.

Jane Lynch, sadly, did not win a People’s Choice Award last night (what’s wrong with you people), but she and Michael Hitch had a pretty funny skit where Jane plays the seat coordinator to the stars. Because, you know. Someone has to do it.

Finally, the Party Down Movie

Happy new year, everyone! And happy, happy news for all of us Party Down fans: Megan Mullally confirmed that there would indeed be a Party Down movie … but we’re all still waiting to see if our Jane Lynch is in. We vaguely recall from her conversation with Adam Scott in oh-so-long-ago 2011 that she did seem pretty damn eager to get to it already, so we’re hopeful that she’ll at least make a cameo.

And for you Gleeks, there are spoilers everywhere for this upcoming season, including Jane hinting that “something big” is coming for Sue: “Let’s just say for a peri-menopausal woman, it’s pretty exciting.” If Sue is with child … well, we’ll cross that bridge if we get to it.

End of the Year Woots + Helen Mirren! Woot!!

It’s the end of the year, which of course means everyone reflects and judges and decides what was the best things in some category, and then we get all excited remembering said things. Fun times, in other words. NPR has reflected and judged and decided that Happy Accidents was one of the year’s best “Celebrity Tell-Alls.” Which means you ought to go get this book in case you already haven’t. If you don’t believe us, take it from Mindy Kaling:

KALING: Jane Lynch’s autobiography, “Happy Accidents.’’ I want to read something funny, too, maybe “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk’’ by David Sedaris. I should read “The Marriage Plot’’ by Jeffrey Eugenides, but right now I just want to read about Jane Lynch realizing she was gay when she was 13.

And in totally different woot! news, Helen Mirren is going to be a “guest voice” on Glee, which is sort of like being a guest voice on The Simpsons in that the person who supplies the voice looks totally different than the person who embodies the voice. In this case, Mirren will be the inner voice of one of the characters; we don’t know which one, but we do know that she’ll probably be hotter than whomever it is. Not to take anything away from Santana, et al, but c’mon. This is the Queen.
